Time and time again, the number one spot men will always seem to flock to when they want to pick up women is the bar. For years, the bar scene has been practically synonymous with singles mixing and mingling, wanting to get to know each other and even hook up for the night. Sometimes when I am at a bar, I will scan around and kind of just shake my head as I watch guy after guy making all of the same mistakes as they try their best to pick up women around them. Half the time, they don’t even realize that they are not doing as well as they think they are, and it’s not until the end of the night when they have to head out the door alone that they realize that they did not have any luck that night.
If you want to know how to pick up women in bars, then you first have to know what things you should not do. That way, you will have a much clearer picture on what you should be doing and what really works to pick up women in bars.
Here are 4 No- No’s of picking up women in bars that will keep you from having the kind of success you should be having:
1. Drinking to excess and then using that liquid courage to give you the balls to approach a woman.
Liquid courage is a funny thing. It may give you the balls to walk up to that woman you have had your eye on since you walked in, but it will almost always guarantee that you end up saying or doing something stupid that will make her look at you as a guy she would never hook up with.
Yes, there are the drunk girls who this is not a problem for them all that much, but those are also the ones that you will wake up next to the next morning and kind of wish that you had shown a little more discretion. There’s nothing wrong with having a drink or two and then approaching a woman without being inebriated, but once that buzz kicks in… your odds of getting her to go home with you usually drop significantly.
2. Sliding up next to a woman and honestly using the cheesiest pick line you ever heard and believing that it will make her want you.
There’s nothing wrong to drop a cheesy line on a woman if you have a good delivery and it’s obviously just a put on to make her laugh or get her talking, but if you honestly drop a line like that on her and expect that it is going to make her feel like she just has to be with you, think again.
Pick up lines are all well and good and I guess that anything that you use to open a conversation can be considered a pick up line, but when you feel that this is the secret to getting laid, you need to do some deeper thinking. Most women you will meet that are worth dating or going to bed with are not going to be impressed and most will be put off if you really think you will win her over with something cheesy. Like I said, it’s all good to use one with a good delivery to make her laugh, but that’s about it.

3. Going to a bar with a pack of your guy friends to pick up women.
The minute a group of 4 or 5 guys or more walk into a bar, all scoping out to see what the women look like, most of the women there will already be on their guard knowing that these guys are just looking to pick up women. The problem with having a pack of guys with you is that you are more than likely going to get a lot more resistance from women, as they are protective of themselves and not only that… it’s just DAMN obvious that you are out to get laid.
The other big problem when 4 or more guys get together with the explicit intention of picking up women is, they almost always start to compete with each other. Meaning, buddies will be cock blocking buddies, especially if there are only a few really good looking women in the place. Mix that with some booze and friendships can end up getting kicked to the curb and the worst part is… usually no one gets laid anyway.
4. Trying to make moves at the very end of the night.
Now, I’ll be honest, this wasn’t much of a problem when I was under 25 and so were all of the girls that I would approach were as well. But, when you get over the age of 25 and closing time is at 4 am, chances are… you are not going to get a lay if you approach her at 3:30 am. Unless of course she is just desperate to get laid herself.
I’ve seen this happen a lot, even to friends of mine. They spend most of the night thinking about approaching a woman and thinking about it some more. Then, when they realize that it’s getting close to closing time and they have had about 6 beers, they want to make the move. By that time, all of the really good looking women have either hooked up or are ready to go home and aren’t open to anything else, and all that is left is the women you could have gotten in the first 30 minutes.
It’s always fun to go to a bar and get a chance to pick up a woman, and in some towns, it’s about the only place you can go to late at night. Just be sure that you do it right and you don’t end up making these 4 mistakes.
